There’s something special about a safari holiday. Big African skies, spectacular sun rises and sunsets and hundreds of African animals awaiting your discovery.
The best way to enjoy the African bush is to be properly prepared for the destination.
Here are a few things you won’t want to forget when packing for safari.
To get the very best out of your safari experience, you’ll want a good pair of binoculars, with around 8x magnification.
The opportunities for great photos in the bushveld are numerous and photographers of all levels will have a wonderful time capturing life-long memories. A telephoto lens is recommended (if you have one), but definitely pack extra memory cards.
Ideally you’ll want neutral coloured clothing that is comfortable and cool. Although the days are usually hot, long sleeve, long pants and a wide-brimmed hat will help combat the harsh sun and insect bites. Jeans and t-shirts are acceptable, but rather leave the bright neon at home. A good pair of walking shoes, with a sturdy sole, is a must, but flip flops will come in handy around camp, as will a swimsuit. Early mornings and evenings can get really chilly, so a wind breaker or fleece jacket is essential.
Avoid painful sunburn with a high SPF sunscreen applied liberally and often. Sunglasses will protect your eyes and help avoid headaches.
